Founded in 1348 by Charles IV, then Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, Charles University is the oldest university in Eastern Europe and most prestigious in the Czech Republic. The Social Sciences Faculty is comprised of five main Institutes: Communication and Journalism, Economic Studies, International Studies, Political Science, and Sociological Studies.

The University of Colorado at Boulder is the flagship university of the
University of Colorado System. Founded in 1876, CU has produced a number of
astronauts, Nobel laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners and other notable
individuals in their fields. It is known as one of the Public Ivies. The January
2004 edition of The Economist ranked CU as the 11th-best public university in
the nation and 31st best public university globally. The U.S. News and World
Report currently ranks the university 34th best among public universities
globally. The University of Colorado at Boulder is an exceptional place,

The Transformative Action Institute (TAI) is devoted to training a new
generation of social entrepreneurs, innovators, visionaries, and problem-solvers
for the 21st century. TAI seeks out young people, especially university
students, with the greatest potential to make a difference. TAI has been invited
to give classes, trainings, and workshops at many of the nation's top
universities, including Berkeley, UCLA, Cornell, NYU, Yale and now the
University of Colorado at Boulder through the Global Leadership Institute. At
the core of the TAI is an innovative model of personal and social
transformation, called Transformative Action.

Since 1972, the Presidents Leadership Class (PLC) has helped develop some of
Colorado's most talented undergraduate students into civic, business and
community leaders. The Presidents Leadership Class is a four-year leadership
development program committed to developing and fostering extraordinary
leadership. Each year 50 of the University of Colorado at Boulder's top entering
freshmen are selected to be PLC Scholars. Each Scholar is awarded a
$2,500-$12,000 merit-based scholarship and receives four years of rigorous
leadership training that fosters both intellectual and personal growth. PLC
develops leaders who have a profound understanding of leadership and its
responsible application within organizations, communities, the nation and the
world.

The Student Movement for Real Change (SMRC) exists as a leadership development organization that provides students in the United States with a vehicle to advocate for positive change in neglected regions of the world. SMRC is an incredibly innovative international organization dedicated to empowering students to become leaders by giving them opportunities to improve health and education in developing communities worldwide. SMRC currently has active chapters in over 25 top tier universities including Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Cornell. SMRC's success in creating transformative change in neglected regions of the world has been recognized and vocalized by social and political activists around the world, including Nelson Mandela. The founder and current current director, Saul Garlick, has been an enthusiastic and incredibly helpful partner with the Global Leadership Institute and our organizations look forward to working together now and in the future in an effort to provide students with the platform and ability to create real change.
