University Course

F2720: Social Entrepreneurship

This course introduces students to the social entrepreneurs, innovators, and visionaries who are creating new strategies for solving society’s problems. Students will first examine traditional methods of social change from history. Then the remainder of the course will be devoted to reviewing the skills, strategies, and ideas of effective social change advocates in the 21st century.

The course highlights innovative case studies of success in restoring the environment, resolving conflicts, curing diseases, overcoming poverty, and addressing other problems of social injustice.

During the two weeks of the course, each student will be responsible for developing an original blueprint for social innovation: a creative proposal for solving a societal problem.

The course is designed by the award winning Transformative Action Institute (TAI).  Course is taught in English and fully accredited. Transcripts are issued by Charles University, the oldest university in Eastern Europe.  Most students are able to transfer credit from the program as long as arrangements are made in advance with their home university. Please consult your home university prior to attending the program for specific details on transferring credit.

The course has 45 contact hours and is worth 3 US semester credits or 6 ECTS (European system) credits.

Cultural Activities and Guest Speakers

Course material is supplemented by guest speakers and afternoon visits to the cultural sites of Prague.

Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships are available. While we are unable to provide any full tuition scholarships, a limited number of partial tuition scholarships are available. Scholarships are primarily reserved from students from Eastern Europe and developing countries.

We strongly encourage students to contact their home universities for possible scholarship options through the study abroad, student activities, honors and/or financial aid office. A large percentage of participants receive funding from their home university to attend our program. We are happy to provide a letter of support to assist in those efforts. Those students seeking scholarships will need to submit a financial aid essay at the time of application.
