today's world, it is
of pressing importance that tomorrow's leaders have a global
perspective.
Taking this realization to heart, The Global Institute for Leadership
and Civic
Development in conjunction with the President's Leadership Class and
the
Transformative Action Institute is proud to announce the second annual
Global
Leadership Program, Boulder (GLP Boulder). The 2008 program (called GLI
Boulder) marked the first North American campus of the Global Institute
for
Leadership and Civic Development. GLP Boulder is held each summer at
the
beautiful University of Colorado at Boulder campus.
Dedicated to making the theoretical real, the participants of GLP
Boulder will
obtain high quality leadership and civic development training in an
international setting. In addition, participants will not only learn
about
foreign cultures but they will communicate, live, study with and learn
from
international students with diverse perspectives, beliefs, cultures,
and upbringings.
GLP Boulder is dedicated to training tomorrow's generation of
international
leaders, visionaries, and innovators to create progressive change in
our world.

Academics
GLP Boulder fosters an
academically rigorous environment while simultaneously promoting true
cultural
immersion. It provides a comprehensive and interactive program in which
international scholars cultivate their leadership and communication
skills both
inside and outside of the classroom.
GLP Boulder offers two mandatory classes focused on leadership,
international
relations, project development, and transformational action.
PRLC
3810 Global Issues in Leadership: Examines
the challenges to leadership posed by major global
issues. Problems in the areas of human rights, hunger, disease,
large-scale
collective violence, and environmental deterioration are explored with
a
special emphasis on the development of effective, long-term leadership
strategies.
PRLC
4010 21st Century Leadership/Capstone Course: Teaches
the students how to transform their
passions into progressive world change. This class will focus on the
principles
of Transformative Action, as well as providing the necessary skills for
scholars to make their dreams a reality.
This course is offered by the Division of Continuing Education as part
of the
Statewide Extended Studies Program. GLP Boulder is a fully accredited
institute
at the University of Colorado, Boulder. All students who complete the
program
will receive 7 upper division credits from the University and an
official
transcript.
Classes will be held for four hours daily, with a break for lunch.
Along with
traditional classroom lecture, classes will consist of small group
recitations,
field trips, and presentations from local leaders and the students
themselves.
Cultural
Activities
Expose
yourself to a new
culture. We offer weekly cultural activities, including a trip to
Denver
(capital of Colorado), museums, and the rodeo.
Speakers
Leaders in business, education, media, social work, politics and
community will
speak to scholars about leadership and progressive action. These
lectures are
designed to allow the scholars to gain insight and ideas from
experienced
leaders and professionals.
Housing
Students live in apartments located near the CU Boulder campus. Rooms
are
double occupancy, sharing a bathroom and kitchen.
Transportation
Boulder has an excellent, inexpensive, and reliable public
transportation
system. Students can walk to classes or take the bus around town. The
bus also
takes students to Denver.
Cost
The price of the program is 3900 USD. This price includes: tuition,
housing,
fieldtrips, workshops, community service projects, and cultural
activities. A
non-refundable deposit is required to secure a spot in program. Payment
plans
can be arranged. The price of the program does not include
airfare and
school supplies. You may consult the following student travel

Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships are available. Scholarships are
primarily
reserved for students from outside of the United States, particularly
developing
countries. To apply for a scholarship please fill-out the applicable
section on
the application. Please note that we are unable to provide full tuition
scholarships to any student and under no circumstances can we provide
funds for
travel. We encourage students to find outside funding and we can
provide a
letter of support for you.
Please
consult your home
university for funding opportunities. A large percentage of
participants
receive funding from their home university to attend our program.
Applications
All
applicants must be 21 years of age by the commencement of the
program to attend the Boulder program.
If you are under 21, you
may apply for the Prague or Berlin program.
Applying for the program is easy. Fill-out the on-line
application. Early
admission deadline for applications is
December 5th, 2008. Regular
admission
deadline is January 15, 2009.
Applications received after this date will be reviewed if
space is
available. For
those applicants not
requesting financial aid, you can use the Fast Track
application and
receive a quicker decision.
Scholarships
A limited number of scholarships are available. Scholarships are
primarily
reserved for students from Eastern Europe and developing countries. To
apply
for a scholarship please fill-out the applicable section on the
application.

2-week
Berlin Intensive Course (August 2-16, 2009)
After the program ends, continue your experience in Europe by attending
an
intensive 2-week course in Berlin from August 2 -16, 2009. Students earn 3 US/ 6 ECTS
credits through
Charles University by taking F2718
German Politics in a Changing World. Morning
lectures and discussions will be supplemented
by afternoon excursions to historical places in the city of Berlin,
screenings of German movies and meetings with German journalists and
politicians. The course is designed as an introduction to German
politics over
the last 60 years and relates the historical developments in post-war,
West-,
East-, and reunified Germany to global and international developments
over the
same time. Students live apartment-style in Berlin’s
trendy neighborhoods and experience the city as a real
‘Berliner’, not a
tourist. The cost of the 2-week course is an additional $1050 (USD)
which
includes: housing,
cultural activities,
