Our Philosophy
GLI Boulder makes the theoretical real. We constantly use the words of Archimedes: "Give me a place to stand and I shall move the world." For us, this is more than just another quote; it is our mantra and our purpose. GLI Boulder will provide the platform for scholars to apply what they learn inside the classroom to real world situations. Rather than just reading about distant cultures and nations, each and every scholar will be exposed to and experience other nationalities, cultures, and beliefs first hand. Rather than simply examining theoretical approaches to leadership, scholars will be faced with actual leadership issues during group projects, community service, and team building exercises. Rather than just reviewing societal problems and possible solutions, scholars will be empowered to enact their idea for progressive change and apply for $50,000 grants.
GLI Boulder exists to promote social responsibility, progressive change, and civic engagement. In addition to the community service projects, curriculum, and weekly guest speakers, scholars will each create a proposal for a project that they would like to implement in their own community. This exercise will allow scholars to gain experience in the skills of formal proposal writing, creative thought, strategy, and communication, which they will use throughout their lives. At the end of the program, scholars will submit these proposals to The Transformative Action Institute to compete for $50,000 grants!
"Give us the tools, and we will finish the job."
